Hot glue

AFRO
Hair Extension is a material experiment that transforms hot glue into something resembling strands of hair.
The work was created for an exhibition opportunity awarded to Shinzato following her Student Award win at the Enjoia’t Contemporary Jewellery Competition in Barcelona. While experimenting with a glue gun in preparation for the exhibition, she noticed that the stretched glue began to resemble strands of hair.
Working with this accidental quality, Shinzato continued stretching, layering and accumulating the material until it developed into a wearable form made entirely from hot glue. Rather than beginning with a fixed concept, Hair Extension emerged through the process of making, allowing the behaviour of the material itself to determine its final form.
